Fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a European style coffee house and café, Mark and Rachel Betzler opened Koninkrijk Koffihuis in downtown Chester in the Summer of 2019. The unique name means royal coffee house in Dutch, Mark’s family heritage. The couple relocated from the Sacramento area in 2018 after falling in love with Lake Almanor while vacationing. Mark is employed by the federal government and will continue working while Rachel, who left her career as an administrator for nonprofits, will run the café. Mark's brother Scott has joined them in working at the café as well.

Located at 240 Main St. in Chester, Koninkrijk Koffiehuis is a European-themed coffee house, providing a taste of Europe to the Lake Almanor area. The menu includes a variety of European pastries, including strudel and bear claws, croissants, quiches, hearty soups, European-style sandwiches, paninis, calzones — and of course coffee. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.; and Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
